OSMcast! Show #168: The OSMawards! 2020 Edipyon – Podcasts, YouTubes, & Internet Things

As so many places and podcasts do, we are kicking off 2021 with a look back at some of the things enjoyed in last year of 2020. And in many ways, some of the things that got us through the last year of 2020. In this particular edipyon, we’ll be tackling some of our most favorite things from the various reaches of the Internet. Podcasts, YouTube Shows, some things that are both! And some things that are neither!

So you may have heard in the episode, that we have a discord. And it’s true! We do! You can find it here. Next week, we’ll be talking about Anime and TV Shows! Until then, Time Cues:

OSMcast? Show #167: Itsudatte My Santa!

Not all OSMcasts, like many things, are created equal. Most OSMcasts end in am exclamation point (!). Some end in a question mark (?). Because sometimes we have to talk about things into a microphone, even if they are not awesome. And this time, it’s about an anime based of a single chapter of a Ken Akamatsu joint: Itsudatte My Santa! Because it’s the holidays and we already did an episode on Tokyo Godfathers.

Oh, we also talked about some other things that are awesome. To try and balance things out, at least a little bit.

OSMnotes

So yeah, that was sure an episode! Have some Time Cues:

OSMcast! Show #166: Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence Teaser Trailer

If you ever asked the question of, “Hey do you think someone can make an hour-long podcast out of a 45 second teaser trailer?” You are in luck! We here at the OSMcast! have answered your question. And the answer is “Definitely, as long as it’s about Yuri!!! on Ice movie!” Thankfully the teaser trailer is for Ice Adolescence, and admittedly we also threw some Moments of OSM in there. Because if we are going to do an episode of the show, it’s gonna be an actual episode!

OSMnotes

OK so in case you wondering, here’s that teaser:

Wow! It’s that sure something? Can you believe we spent what, forty minutes plus on this? In our defense… Victor is pretty dang pretty, though. Also, Marriage For All Japan is a pretty great idea, and one we really hope happens. Also, we got in an episode for November! Whoo! Hopefully we can get some more episodes in before the new year! But until then, Time Cues:

OSMcast! Show #165: Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

In our last episode we talked about how great it was to go off into a new world, like an uninhabited island of people yet filled with cute animal pals. In this episode, we instead talking about using the powers of our imagination to transport us into other worlds. With the power of animation. Specifically, Japanese animation. Really getting to the brass tacks we are talking about Masaaki Yuasa’s and Science Saru’s adaptation of Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, based of the manga by Sumito ?wara.

Also yeah, Dark Horse Comics is publishing the Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! manga. They even did in fact tweet about it!… Back in March.  But the manga starts coming out next month! But what’s coming up now? The fact that the soundtrack composer Oorutaichi has a bandcamp and it kicks ass in a wonderful folksy way? Yes! And Time Cues. Those are a thing!

OSMcast! Show #164: Animal Crossing: New Horizons

In March of 2020, something terrible happened. That is pretty well covered. We don’t really have to get into that. But something truly special and wonderful also happened. Nintendo released the latest Animal Crossing game, subtitled New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch. Granted, this is also pretty well covered. But since it something totally awesome and rad, it is actually is covered under our purview. Therefore, please enjoy this podcast about Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Preferably on a remote island, away from all other humanity. Maybe with some cute animals as your only friends? Man, wouldn’t that be the life!

Since we recorded the episode, the October stuff has begun! You can get all sorts of spooky things, grow some pumpkins, pretty good stuff. And if you want some more good stuff, check out these Time Cues:

The Carbuncle Chronicle Issue 8: Housing in Final Fantasy XIV

Hello Adventurers! With a new set of wards being added to all the Residential Districts at the launch of Patch 5.3 on October 13th, now was a great time to talk about Housing! What is Housing? What do you mean by wards and Residential Districts? We go into it, tell you all your options. Because there are more than just houses when you really look at it. We also go into how we happened into our housing options, and what we like about housing in Final Fantasy XIV… And what we don’t! Plus, some of our favorite items we have used to decorate our place. To cap it off, we go into some Tips & Tricks to try and help you land that plot once the new patch hits. Good luck Warriors of Land Ownership Darkness!

OSMcast! Show #163: Stars Align

Sometimes, an anime is about a sport. Sometimes, it’s about other things entirely. Sometimes, it’s about other things entirely but also absolutely needs the sport in question to get to the things the anime wants to talk about. This time, that sport is Soft Tennis and this anime is called Stars Align. And it is about Soft Tennis, but not entirely. It is also a show written and directed by Kazuki Akane along with the studio Eight Bit. It is also pretty great! But you may have figured that out when we released a podcast all about it.

OSMnotes!

Anime News Network also had an excellent pair of interviews with the writer and director of Stars Align Kazuki Akane, that we talked about during the podcast. You can find Part One here, and Part Two here. To mix up some sports metaphors, Kim Morrissy absolutely knocked these interviews out of the park! They really showed some wonderful insights into this show.

And while we may be podcasting about a show full of kids, we are definitely some old men! You can tell this by our Moments of OSMs, that are all inadvertently synced up about us yearning for our childhoods. Huh. The things you notice as you actually put together the show descriptions and Time Cues:

OSMquest! Be Prepared: A Weekend at Camp Oostanaula, Finale

It’s been a one hell of a weekend over at Camp Oostanaula! Salt lines have been broken, things have been unleashed. Our poor generic nondescript scouts are being hounded by a Terror, but for some reason no one seems to believe them! Out of escape routes, out of options. Except one: It’s time to take it to the Terror itself. Come join us as we kick some tires and light some fires as we play this final installment of Be Prepared, by Grant Howitt

OSMquest! Be Prepared: A Weekend at Camp Oostanaula, Part Three

Hey… hey Baxter! You know what would be funny? Going through this creepy old farm house from who knows when! Only… our scouts did that. Lines were crossed. And redrawn. And then probably crossed again. Look, it was 1994, you know? They didn’t know any better. And if they don’t play their cards right, they never will. Things take a few turns for our brave and noble scouts as we once again play some of Be Prepared, by Grant Howitt.

The Carbuncle Chronicle Issue 7: Patch 5.3 Impressions, The Rising 2020, and Yo-kai Watch Returns!

Hello Adventurers! The time has finally come, the long wait is over, Patch 5.3 has arrived! And with it, we have received an absolute embarrassment of riches. So for this issue of the Carbuncle Chronicle, we dive right on in!

We start with some updates about the upcoming Ishgardian Restoration, as well as new housing plots are being added!? Then we get into some of those juicy yet not very spoilery impressions of Patch 5.3. How we felt the story wrapped up, convincing Dylan that it’s okay to do the Nier raids, flying in ARR, how awesome dwarves are, all sorts of things. We also talk about The Rising 2020 event happening right now, until September 17th. And we wrap up with remembering and chatting about some good, good yo-kai grinding.

And if you are in need of some help figuring out what to do and where to go for the Yo-kai Watch event, this is a really helpful visual guide made by KaiyokoStar:
